KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Gennaro Cassiani (1965) is a Early Modern historian. After studying at the University of Rome (“La Sapienza”), he earned his PhD in Early Modern History in 1998, at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart (Milan). He obtained, in 2012 and in 2018, the Italian "Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale" as Associate Professor in Early Modern History.
Cassiani was an associate researcher of Istituto Luigi Sturzo in Rome (1992-2002); adjunct professor and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Molise (2000-2008). He is a member of SISEM (2007-today) [Italian Society for Early Modern History]; he is a researcher of the Enciclopedia Treccani ("Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani") and a guest professor at Catholic University of Sacred Heart (Milan). Here, in May 2019, he held a seminar for doctoral students on Federico Cesi (1585-1630) and the Oratorian Tommaso Bozio (1548-1610). In May 2020, he will hold a cycle of lessons entitled: "Natura, medicina e profezia alla fine dei tempi. Joannes Eck, confondatore dell'Accademia dei Lincei (1579-1616)" ["Nature, Medicine and Prophecy at the End of Time. Joannes Eck, Co-founder of the Accademia dei Lincei (1579-1616)"]. Cassiani’s area of expertise is on the first Oratorians and natural sciences; Tommaso Bozio and the first Linceans; theology of nature and spirituality of science (XVI-XVII centuries); Joannes Eck, co-founder of the Lincean Academy. His books include Il «Socrate cristiano». Saggio su Filippo Neri (1515-1595), Pisa 2010. His Tommaso Bozio. I saperi scientifici e i libri ‘lincei’ (1548-1610) is now in press, with the edition of the unpublished Bozio's Inventarium librorum (Bibl. Vall., ms P. 206). |

CONFERENCE TOUR
The conference tour will happen on Saturday, 23 October, to the Palace of Necessidades, in Lisbon. The Palace of Necessidades was initially an Oratorian convent, but today is the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs. This special visit will be made with the guidance of Ambassador Manuel Côrte-Real; registration is mandatory in the first day of the conference.
